Dear volunteers,
You already had a good taste of what it feels like to extend ones hand and reach out to our fellow friends through working with the Bailey's Crossroads Shelter. If you have more time to spare in between the monthly dinners and would like to extend your hand even further, here is another opportunity:
Cameron Glen nursing at Reston, VA has some residents whom are in perfect mental health and have no one to visit them. In particular there is my Persian friend whom I came accross 6 years ago while he was being admitted. Last week, when I went for another visit, I saw that he was still there. He is in his sixty's, in perfect mental health, his wife and kid are not visiting him any more and he would love to have a visitor to talk to, play back gammon or cards with, discuss politics or simply have someone to visit him and keep him company a bit. When I asked him if he'd like to have visitors, his eyes light up with joy. There are many more senior citizens in Cameron Glen and other nursing homes that are left there to die and are forgotten by friends and family members.
We are seeking volunteers who would like to pay a visit to Cameron Glen on a weekly, bi weekly or even monthly basis for one hour, even 1/2 hour. You can visit during the day or after work. Please send me a reply if you are interested and I will email or mail you a volunteer application to fill out.
As we give we shall recieve.
Love,
Yekta
